Smarter Water Monitoring for Port Kembla

Omniflex provides New South Wales Ports with the necessary infrastructure to monitor daily site-wide water consumption

Improving Visibility of Water Usage

Omniflex has helped New South Wales Ports gain greater insight into water consumption across its Port Kembla site by connecting 38 water meters to a remote monitoring system. Using LoRaWAN transmitters and Omniflex’s Data2Desktop platform, port managers can now track daily water usage, identify leaks earlier and improve cost allocation across multiple tenant-operated sites.

Connecting Old and New Infrastructure

One of the project’s biggest challenges was integrating twelve different types of water meter, ranging from decades-old units to newly installed devices. Omniflex adapted each meter for remote data collection and calibrated pulse outputs to ensure accurate monitoring, creating a single system capable of collecting and reporting data from infrastructure of varying ages and manufacturers.

Supporting Sustainability Goals

The new monitoring system provides New South Wales Ports with reliable site-wide consumption data that supports both operational efficiency and ESG reporting. By giving sustainability teams better visibility of water usage trends, the system can help identify opportunities for future water-saving initiatives, including potential stormwater harvesting projects.
